Ken, if/when you get a refund, please let the rest of us know. I'm
about ready to do the same.
Just before the 2001 ARRL Southwestern Division Convention, I jumped on
one of the offers
to save money, due to an imminent dues increase, and signed up for five
years. Since there are
a couple of years left on that membership, I think it's time that I
resigned and requested a refund
of dues, as well.
I, too, was an ARRL VE until the code test was dropped to 5 wpm. In
good conscience, I knew that I
could not sign off on someone's Extra-class ticket who had only an
introductory knowledge of CW.
The only regret that I have about my own Extra-class ticket is that I
took the two elements for
Extra class (20 wpm code test and theory) from a VE team that I
eventually joined. Nice bunch
of people, but certainly I would have placed more personal value on the
achievement if I had
taken those elements, years ago, in front of THE MAN, as I had done for
my General and
Advanced licenses.
The way things are going, maybe I should sell my HF gear while it's
still worth something.
