Since the move to eliminate code has started, I have been kind of keeping an
eye on band activity. With the exception of 80 and to a lesser extent 160,
there are usually about as many or MORE THAN an equal number of CW QSO's on the
bands. 40 meters is lopsided toward SSB in daytime, but is very active at night
CW wise. 20 is usually about 50 50 and often more towards CW, believe it or
not. 10 and 15 are about 50/50 and 17 as well. I think 75 meter is popular for
SSB cuz most of the night guys run big power and it's a good shorter haul B.S.
band. QRN is a problem on the lower bands also. I too believe the lower cycle
is resulting in less activity. The days of "working the world" with 5 watts
(or ANY power) are coming to an end for a while. The upper HF bands will
become so dead in the near future, that you will wonder if someone has changed the
laws of physics for RF, and your signal just leaves the antenna and falls to
the ground. ANYHOW, the claims that CW is dead etc etc etc etc is just so much
bull (as we knew anyway) and is just another ploy. But just because the band
is lousy, or the FISTS calling freq is dead, get on the air and keep that music
going. Many FISTS members do not just hang on .058, and there are sure a lot
of other fellers to meet thru out the CW band portion. I tried for a while to
make at least one CW QSO a day. I made it almost two years before I broke that
cycle. Lets keep this thing ALIVE and jumping as best we
