A couple of comments.
First, after I returned to HF and buying a Kenwood 570D with built in
keyer it took me almost 4 months before I could control the d--m thing
at 15 wpm!! I used to handle CW traffic with a bug on USAF MARS at 20-22
wpm. That automatic keyer is/was a nightmare. I almost went back to my
bug, but I sold it at a flea market. Now I can't control the keyer at
speeds below 10 wpm ... oh well!
Second, new ops. When I hear someone below 10 wpm I assume an operator
who is working on his/her CW speed. I'll be patient and hope they are
patient with my mis-timed 'H' with 3, 5, or 6 dots ... d--m keyer ;-)
Honestly though, most of my CW is chasing DX using the DX Formula "TU
599 de W1MCE BK" at 25-30 wpm. My God, if the operator at the other end
says QRX 5 at 50 wpm it takes me 10 seconds to 'figure' out what was
said. ;-)

PS: DX and CW are married and a great marriage it makes!
