That happens to me a lot too.  Would it work to call CQ RCC (Rag Chewers 
Club)?  ARRL used to recommend it, if I remember, but I never hear any 
such calls.  Or maybe we could establish a rag-chewer's calling

Are people afraid of reavealing personal info?  I sometimes send my rig, 
and the other ham responds "Rig hr 100 W."  Is he afraid I'll take 
offense if I'm running a Ten Tec and he bought a rice box?

Or I'll send AGE HR 58 - BN HAM 44 YRS, and the other guy wwn't respond 
in kind.  And when I send my occupation (teacher), fewer than half will 
tell me what they do (or did before retiring.)

To be sure, I've had some great conversations about grandkids, other 
hobbies (mine is barbershop harmony), and frustrations at work.  But why 
are so many hams reluctant to hang around and get to know one another?
