Great thread......My first was in 1962. I was a rock bound novice. My call=20
was WN=D8FAX. I used a home brew 6l6 transmitter that was powered by an old=20=
TV=20
power supply and link coupled to a 90 foot end fed wire antenna. My rcvr was=
=20
an old Hallicrafters S-19R (Sky Buddy) that I had. My first station in the=20
log was W=D8FBY, who was also the most responsible for my being a ham. The=20
whole she-bang cost about 15 bux. The local club would give new novices two=20
xtals. 80 and 40/15. When you upgraded, you gave them back, and another=20
novice could use them. They had a pretty good pile of them. I soon updated m=
y=20
station to a DX-20 and an RME-45 rcvr. I'm sure none of that stuff worked as=
=20
well as I remeber it working tho'. Great times.............Al/W8FAX
