Hi Friends,
I have just rx the FISTS digest of the day.
Really amazing as an hobby can quickly turn into a "chapel's battle" (F saying).
The "599" is of no more value nowadays, especially in contests. That is a proven
fact.
Sorry Hans but I really doubt that during a contest an expert (looking for the
1st place, the highest score) will take the time to type in 579 on the keyboard
(did you say CW ?... humm ....) instead of hitting the F5 or Fx function key to
send the automatic "599 serial" report.
Despite that, I do agree with you that during a contest, twice sending is a
waste of time BUT the KeyNote Bulletin is stating that the Sprint is at first to
have fun. Yes, it is a contest, yes you have to go quick (and BTW it is an other
way which helps improve our CW skills and that is why I _do_ love contests !)
but by Jove, we are here to have fun, n'est-il-pas ?
Despite the fact that /QRP is not part of our official licence, I will always
sign /QRP while QRPing for at least 2 reasons :
- the other guy may answer quicker to a QRP, as stated by Stan, especially in a
pile-up, also a proven fact.
- if the other guy logged me as F5PBL and not as F5PBL/QRP, then he will send a
QSL to F5PBL despite the fact that I was QRP and this QSL may be of no value for
my QRP awards chasing. As for contesting, Award chasing is only an other side of
our hobby, but as Hans is taking seriously the contest matter, I am taking
seriously my award chasing matter.
And in some contests there is also a special entry for QRP.
Hans, pse do not misunderstand me. I do follow you in some aspects but I think
that everyone should put "some water in his/her wine" ... The QRPers and other
fellows who do not enjoy "quick QSOs" should stay away of contesting but pse
accept that some QRP/QRS stations wish to enter the contest and even sending
their CC.
73 QRO and I do hope we will meet on air.
