Tim: Try not to use those DX'pedition pileups to form an opinion of
what CW should be like. There are old timers in those pileups and
so-called "Big Guns" and they have no respect for others. It is "Dog
Eat Dog" and there are no manners or ethics when it comes to those
"Shark Infected Waters" with them in a "Feeding Frenzy". This is NOT
what it is all about. I have heard bad language, name calling, and
ecerything else in those situations. I have been on CW for 55 years
plus six years as a Navy CW Radio operator and I stay away from them,
because that is not what CW is all about. What makes CW a pleasure is
when you have a ragchew for over an hour and get to know the other
person, what he does for a living, where he lives, his other interests,
etc. I had a one hour QSO with G3KDE on 12 meters the other day and it
is one of the nicest QSO's I can remember. We had so much in common
is was great. That is what it is all about.
Speed is not the only objective and that comes with time. I copy in
my head and just jot down notes to remember to comment on, but that
comes with experience. The main thing is to get on and operate CW.
I look forward to contacting you.
