Just wanted to say that it was very nice to talk with those of you I got to
meet in Dayton. A friend and I had a really nice time at the QRP get together
on Friday night, combined with the Fist social event also. The QRP club did a
bang-up BBQ and those who missed it, really missed some great eats. I am not
personally much of a QRP op, but I was certainly impressed with the really
fine craftsmanship that was displayed by many builders in the contest and
display events. Sure glad someone can see that tiny stuff. VERY impressive
skill and care went into the construction of the devices and rigs that were
shown. I was also most impressed by the enthusiasm of the QRP group as a
whole. They were all very nice and answered any questions that anyone had.
They are a very dedicated group of hams and it was great to see ops who were
really into HAM RADIO, and not plotting or politicking for a change. ( a
common problem we have here in Dayton) I would really encourage FISTS members
to try and make it to the social event next year. It's a great time to put a
face with that call sign you worked. You will usually be surprised when you
meet folks. Jess, AI9L told me I was far less good looking than he ever
imagined. The conversations went from everything ham radio. ARRL, FISTS, DX,
Keys, CW, etc. were all heard or overheard. Great time to make new friends
and visit with old ones. AND for an added treat, if you go by the FISTS booth
they will put you to work.....great fun........73 Al/W8FAX/2192
