I was reading the recent comments about how HAM radio is turning into =
CB.=20

It doesn't have to happen if we get involved. By "WE" I mean those of us =
who are not new to the hobby. I guess we're called ELMER's. Sometimes =
being an ELMER doesn't come with an official appointment or a badge with =
a flashy T-shirt that proclaims "ELMEROUSITY".....HI...HI

The new order of HAM radio has broke over us slowly and now we are =
seeing the results. But, I get the feeling the some of us dedicated HAMS =
have thrown their hands up and walked away. What your hearing is the =
direct result of that abandonment.

I have actually heard a couple years back a HAM whom I instructed a few =
years back ( who now is the President of our local HAM club say that =
"HAM radio is dying!. I was certainly appalled and ashamed at what he =
said. It was a 'throw your hands in the air attitude' that really upset =
my sensibilities.

I have noticed this attitude has become pervasive in our country. I, for =
one, am tired of retreating. From my point of view, I can't ignore =
losing a hobby that has become an integral part of my life. No, I put my =
foot down. I'm not "going along with flow" and "not create and waves" or =
be a part of the "don't rock the boat crew".=20

If you come down to visit my "shack" HAMRADIO is ALIVE and living. I'm =
not the winner of any great awards but I do enjoy my hobby. No one is =
going to take that away from me. That's why I joined FISTS! When I =
joined this club a few years back my number was 2504. Now, look at the =
numbers and how much FISTS has grown. We even are getting many HAMs from =
around the world! So, looking at it from the FISTS perspective CW and =
HAMRADIO are GROWING.

It's a matter of point of view and attitude. With these functions, we =
also must be willing to change and be flexible. Even it's just paying =
your dues to the FISTS every year, attending club meetings.... get =
involved.
Even if it's something as insignificant as talking to a trucker using =
the repeater while passing through.
