Hi all. Today I rcved an email from a coward who has chosen to stay anonymous
as cowards always do. He/she has taken it upon themselves to be an "air wave
policeman," but are probably no more than a closet pervert. Having nothing
else to do, and with their "ham radio" badge firmly tacked to the center of
the forehead, the coward has decided to dictate policy. Self appointed
calling freqs are fine, but FISTS nor anyone else "owns" a freq. I will QSY
at MY own choice, and when on 40 meters and the bands is NOT crowded, guess
what..........I AINT MOVIN'. Apparently this coward also failed to note the
large mistletoe firmly affixed to my shirt tale. I invite him/her to use it
in the traditional sense. The perp also used the email of
[email protected], [email protected], which is also a coward's
way of hiding behind a computer's anonymity. Follows the letter. I am also
forwarding this to some other reflector's to show how petty some folks have
become in this hobby..........................Al Tanner/W8FAX..........EXTRA

This is an outgoing generic form letter. No replies are expected, checked
for, or read. Therefore, no replies from this department will be made.
You were monitored this recently engaging in QSO on / or about, the FISTS
calling frequency for quite some length of time. It is the purpose of this
message to make you aware of the policy for using the calling frequencies
properly. It is made mention of in *every* issue of the Keynote that the
calling frequency *is not* to be used for carrying on a QSO. I will make
formal reference to this past REFERENCE ISSUE #1, page 11, paragraph 2 ...
"...make a contact and move, or QSY, off the frequency to a different spot to
free up the calling frequency for others to use. That's why it's called a
calling frequency, not a QSO frequency." That *IS* a quote from the FISTS
reference issue, that you should have in your possesion.
The reason for a calling frequency is, so that FISTS operators have a *clear*
frequency to call, and listen for, other FISTS operators. Please keep in
mind, that just because the frequency may not sound very lively to you...
that doesn't mean that your qso isn't covering up a DX FIST for someone else.
Please try to keep this in mind when operating on, or near the FISTS calling
frequencies. QSY *at least* 500hz up, or down from the call... further, if
possible, after you make a contact. EXAMPLE: " W1XYZ, de W2ABC. tu fer the
call OM, pse QSY 7.057 for QSO, QSL? BK" You have now only occupied the
calling frequency for a short time, and now that DX FIST can get through to
establish contact with someone who can hear him.
This is only sent to you as a reminder of proper usage policy within the
FISTS organization. No one ham, or group lays claim to any amateur
frequency., but there are specific gentlemans agreements within the amateur
fraternity, and groups within, that we try to adhere to for the good of all.
Also, common sense, and courtesy should be observed. One of the FISTS creeds
is "COURTESY AT ALL TIMES". It will certainly be appreciated by many, when
one does his part to uphold these creeds.
No reply is needed to this email, and any made will not be replied to.
Forward any questions to Nancy, WZ8C at email <[email protected]>. She is the
formal chairperson for FISTS NORTH AMERICA.
Thank You,
73
