Hi all.....I recently bought a new out of the box bug at hamvention here in
Dayton. I wish now I had controlled my impulse and maybe searched for an
older key. I have several others, my favorite being a 1962 Blue Racer. I
purchased an original standard with a black base. My problem is that I cannot
get it adjusted, and when I do it won't stay. It has a "cheepy" feel about
and is noisy and clacks. I am a toolmaker, and can usually get these things
to work by reasoning out what the problem is. All my other bugs are solid
feeling and readily (pretty much) adjust to where they are supposed to. I
think this thing is just not built well. I have tried changing the bearing
pre-load, spring tension, weight adjustments, contacts etc etc and not much
luck. I usually operate between 20/30 WPM so the problem is not that I am
trying to slow it down below what it SHOULD be able to adjust to. Anyone else
have problems with the newer Vibroplex keys?? If you solved your problem,
please let me know.
