[Fists] re virus attacks

It is up to everyone to have an anti-virus program that catches viruses as
they arrive, no matter what the type.

Some people have none. So they send out viruses of various types. That of
course is totally irresponsible.

BUT, If the others have a decent program, they will not be affected. It is
that simple. Mine is part of OnTrack Fix-It, and is actually Trend Micro
PCcillin, which in itself is fine. Norton has a good one. Grisoft has a
super one, and checks outgoing mail, which is a bit uncommon and a great
idea. One version of that package is FREE. All these programs, and there are
roughly twenty packages on the market, have good features. Get one that is
certified to work on your machine, that is important. And if you are on
full-time using DSL or high-speed Cable, you must have a firewall up as
well, and some programs have that in them too. There are at least three VERY
good firewall programs.

I have no vested interest in any program(s) mentioned here. I just use a
couple of them.

By the way, some say get a Mac and forget about it. Wrong. That is not true.

Coming down the pike soon is the internationally agreed on V.92, which
requires a special one-time modem purchase and Call Waiting service from
your telcom. After that, the bottom line is that if you want to make a call,
pick up the phone and do it. The computer will stand by until you hang up.
If a call comes in, the computer stops and your single phone line lets you
pick up the phone and answer.
When done, the phone hangs up and the computer resumes. A fair increase in
speeds that matter are involved in V.92 protocol and may make it a stiff
competitor with DSL, which is a very tricky mess for a lot of people. .. and
costs as much as cable modem service. Me, I am waiting for V.92. It is right
around the corner, VERY close to being implemented by many ISPs.

V.92, in which I have no vested interest at all, can be found described at
www.v92.com/v92_faq.htm.
