We are less than 2 weeks from our last big event as a club. For those that don't know and as a reminder for everyone else, Ohio State Parks On The Air (OSPOTA) will be taking place on Saturday, September 9th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. As always, we will be competing from Harrison Lake State Park. This year we will be utilizing 2 shelter houses. The main shelter house will be the Marzolf Shelter House, located on the southwest side of the park, off of Co Rd M. We will be starting promtly at 10 am. From this location, we will have a Buddihex positioned on the south side of the shelter house, fitted with a triplexer and band pass filters. 2 Icom 7300's and 1 Yaesu DX10 will be operating on 10m, 15m, and 20m. On the north end of the shelter house will be a DX Commander, coupled with an Icom 7300 and band pass filter. The 2nd shelter house is located near the water tower. To get to that spot, you will need to enter the park on the west side and follow the signs to Camp Palmer. Once you make the turn in that direction, stay to the right and the shelter house will be on your right. From this location, there will be stations on 80m as well as hunting DX. If you haven't already been contacted about bringing equipment, you will not need to do so. If you want to participate, simply reply to this email and let me know when you will be available to run a rig and we will get you scheduled to take a shift on one of the stations. Everyone is welcome to participate but we need to be able to keep this orderly so that we can keep all of the stations running, every minute that we can, in order to maximize our points, as we attempt to win this contest this year. We will have laptops set up at every station for logging and if you require help with this, please let us know that in your response as well and we will do our best to ensure that you have help if needed. Headsets will also be at every station. Several will have splitters so that 2 operators can man the station if necessary. We will be logging using HAMRS software. We will be spotting every station on the POTA page, as well as DX Summit. We will also be operating all stations for POTA that day, at the same time. At the end of the day, logs will be directly uploaded to POTA, as well as copies sent to Craig1 so that he can convert them into a Cabrillo file, to be sent to OSPOTA. Last year, we weren't organized and we ended up 5th in the state. This year we are going to attempt to make a legitimate run at 1st place.
As always, we will be having food available but we are in need of people to plan this out so that we don't end up with 26 bags of chips & 13 2 liters of soda and nothing else. If anyone would be interested in heading this up, please take the lead on this and get it started as soon as possible. If you plan on being there but don't plan on operating a radio, it would be a great help if you could take a few pictures with you phone and get them to Gretchen so that she has plenty of useful stuff for social media. If anyone has a drone available, it would be great to get some ariel footage of the even, as well as some videos. If you are interested in helping set up or tare down, I'm sure MR. Patterson would appreciate some help at the shelter house by the water tower. Lastly, if you are unable to attend but will be near a radio, it would greatly help the club if you would make a contact with us. Look for the club call sign here Parks on the Air | POTA | Parks program for amateur radio. and here DXSummit.fi. We will be operating on SSB only. This contest does not allow digital, CW, or any band above 10m. We are looking forward to seeing you out there and/or hearing from you.
