Hello everyone, here are some notes from the Monday night Club meeting:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm with 17 members in attendance. Minutes
from the previous meeting and the treasurer's report were read and accepted.
Committee reports follow:
Education: Tom Servoss has stated that we have one person scheduled for testing
on January 25, although the test time has been rescheduled to 11:15am.
Repeater Committee: Bryan Patterson reports that he was able to successfully
repair the radios from the backup repeater site which were damaged by lightening
last year. The power supply and repeater controller were also successfully
repaired, and he and Lindsay Infante expect to have the system back in place
very soon. We heard a lot of accounts on how bad the coverage of the primary
repeater is to the south and west. While some of this is attributable to the low
output power from the repeater, much of it is probably due to a change in
location of the mounting arm for the 4 bay antenna. We believe a side effect of
the new mounting location is finished coverage in those general directions
possibly due to the tower structure reflecting part of the signal. We are still
investigating what can be done to remedy this. While putting the amplifier back
in service will aid transmission coverage, it may not help with the receive issues.
Memorial Committee: Nothing to report.
Members in Distress: It was reported that KC2RCU was awaiting an organ
transplant. It was also reported that KC8UOM's daughter passed away this past
January 1.
EC Report: Nothing to report.
Membership: Memberships are reset in January, as of this evening we have 37 paid
members and lifetime members. I'll have the membership list updated on the club
website within the next few days, so if you do not see your name listed there,
check to make sure we received your membership dues and contact me direct via email.
T-Shirt Committee: Nothing to report.
Hamfest Committee: The Hamfest will be June 7 at the Tedrow Woodlot. There are
flyers available on the website (under the Hamfest section) for posting at
regional Hamfests. Lindsay (K8LI) also has us listed in the ARRL hamfest
database. As in the past, we'll be having a special VE testing session during
the Hamfest. Bryan has secured the Delta Memorial Hall for December 6, 2014.
This will allow us to have our first ever Winter Hamfest in Fulton County. We
are just waiting approval from the Delta Village Council, but it appears to be a
done deal at this point. More information on setup and starting times will be
coming soon.
Club Officer Elections: No changes in the lineup this year, the current officers
all accepted their positions from last year. We look forward to serving the
club members and amateur radio in general. Your 2014 club officers are:
President -- Bryan Patterson KB8ELG
Vice President -- Craig Szczublewski KD8KBU
Treasurer -- Lu Ann Kuney KB8ELH
Secretary -- Angela Infante KB2AVN
Good of Amateur Radio:
1. Bryan Patterson reported that the last of the equipment from the donated by
Cass Telles from his late fathers estate has been sold. The proceeds will allow
us to pursue purchasing a new Kenwood repeater, and put the current one at the
backup site.
2. Jim McBride (K8JPD) has asked the club for assistance on February 15 for a 5K
run being held in Delta. The run should be mostly through town, and would be
similar in responsibilities to Lockport and the Keiser Memorial Run. More
information will be coming soon, but please do mark your calendars if you are
able to assist.
3. February 22 is the Lake Erie Boatanchor show for the AM & CW enthusiasts near
Rocky River (just west of Cleveland). More information can be found at their
website http://leboatanchors.blogspot.com/
