Amateur Radio, often called ham radio, has consistently been the most reliable
means of communications in emergencies when other systems failed or were
overloaded. Despite the development of very complex systems--or maybe because
they are so complex--ham radio has been called into action again and again to
provide communications when it really matters.
Unlike some other types of radio services, you need an FCC license to
communicate with a ham radio. There are three levels of Amateur Radio Licenses,
and getting your first one is not all that hard. Many people pass their FCC exam
in a week of spare time and the Fulton County Amateur Radio Club would like to
help you.
The Fulton County Amateur Radio Club is offering a two day entry level
Technician class, followed by an ARRL VEC Testing session. The two day class
takes place on September 10th and 17th at the Delta Public Library from 10:00am
until 2:00pm both days, with testing at the end of the second Saturday. Cost for
the class is $30.00 which covers the cost of your ARRL Technician study guide.
The VEC testing session will be a separate charge which is $15.00. Since
manuals need to be ordered for the class, we can only take sign-ups through
September 4 th . Contact the Fulton County Amateur Radio Club today to enroll!
