Well folks we are getting into the 11th hour for planning the Marine
Corps Marathon for 2008. Thus far 89 people have volunteered and at a
minimum to pull this off we need at least 16 more!
If you are an experienced NCS willing to undertake the job for the
runners and in support of the US Navy medics working with the US
Marine Corps personnel we need at least 2 more of you!
If you are willing to work using 2m or 440 Repeaters and Simplex and
can operate in the field for up to 10 hrs or more with either a Mobile
or HT with gain antenna in support of around 20,000 runners on one of
the most beautiful courses in the world we need at least 14 more of you!
Yes this is always the tough time to get more people to volunteer but
it is a long day but a worth while commitment. Runners in this
marathon run for themselves, for their countries (yes this is an
international race), their units, fallen comrades and just because its
there. Unlike any other marathon in the US, we support at least 9
Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies, 2 Fire and EMS
agencies and, unique to them all, our primary served agency is the US
Navy Medics assigned to the US Marine Corps.
If you can commit your time and resources to this event please sign up
at:
The commitment is 1 highly recommended briefing on the morning of the
18th of October in Washington, DC and then game day October 26, 2008.
You need to be through the Staging Area by 0700 hours or you will not
be able to get to your assignment. Your day is done when net control
lets you know its ok after either all runners have passed your
location or we are authorized to release you based on the time of day.
For NCS operators we have the early hour of 0330 hrs start up and we
hang in until the end of the race. All operations usually cease by
1600 hrs.
Thank you for considering this marathon and I appreciate all those who
can sign up.
