This past Saturday, July 29th, the Antietam Radio Association sponsored
the Maryland State Convention in Hagerstown, MD.  This convention was
unconventional in that the event was not held in conjunction with a
hamfest.  This was strictly an educational event with fifteen topics
presented during the day.  The keynote speaker was ARRL First Vice
President Kay Craigie N3KN.

The convention culminated in a trip to the Old Man's (HPM) grave site
for a memorial service.  A bagpiper in uniform (none other than our
Corporate Counsel, Chris Imlay W3KD) played several tributes with the
bagpipes with a short talk by the Atlantic Division Director between
tributes.  The memorial service was truly awe inspiring.

The convention was wildly successful!  Attendance was better than
anticipated.  Several of the forums were standing room only.  The ARRL
Meet and Greet forum was well attended and even though a state
convention, we were fortunate to have three of our Division's Section
Managers present -- Jim Cross WI3N -- Maryland/DC Section; Frank
Filipkowski AD3M -- Delaware Section and Larry O'Toole K3LBP -- Western
PA Section, along with Assistant Director John Rodgers N3MSE; Atlantic
Division Vice Director Tom Abernethy W3TOM, Atlantic Division Director
Bill Edgar N3LLR, First Vice President Kay Craigie N3KN and Corporate
Counsel Chris Imlay W3KD present at this session.

-From a PR standpoint, the local TV station sent a news crew out who
conducted an interview with Jim Cross WI3N, Maryland/DC Section
Manager.  This interview was shown on TV during the 6:00pm news.
