DRAFT MINUTES
Meeting of The Foundation for Amateur Radio, Inc.
September 8, 2003

The meeting was held at Lee Center, in Alexandria, Virginia. Dan Blasberg,
KA8YPY, called the meeting to order at 8:05 m.

No August minutes were presented.  They were not available.

Treasurer, John Chitwood, K3RGB, gave the treasurer's report.  It was
accepted as presented.

AutoCall - William, W3QX, reported on AutoCall.  The next deadline is
September 15.  The issue will focus on scholarships.  The February issue's
deadline is December 15.

F.A.R. Fest - Dan, KA8YPY, gave the F.A.R. Fest report.  All tables have
been sold.  We are still need gate volunteers.

Nomination Committee - Mary Morris, N4TCI gave the report.  Nominations are:

Dan, KA8YPY, indicated that he would resign from office if support isn't
found for the multiple tasks he must perform.  He needs and advertising
coordinator for AutoCall; Web Manger for both the www.amateur-far.org and
www.farfest.org websites;  F.A.R. Fest volunteer coordinator, security
coordinator, tailgate coordinator and ticket sales coordinator.


New Business:
Bill Dobson, N3WD, moved and it was seconded and passed that MD/DQ QSL Party
and Mid Atlantic QSO party will be given a full page ad in Auto Call,  which
will not count against a club's annual ad.

The meeting adjourned at 9:35 p.m.

The location of the next FAR meeting will be held at the Prince George
County Fire Services Building, in the main auditorium.  The address is 6820
Webster St. in Landover Hills, Maryland.

                                   Minutes of Meeting for August 12, 2004

 President, Dan Blasberg, KA8YPY called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM and
asked all trustees in attendance  to stand and introduce themselves. There
were 13 Trustees in attendance, including F.A.R.

The minutes of the previous (July) meeting were accepted, as amended, by
voice vote.

Announcements and Reports:
Page Pine, WA3EOP of the Antietam Radio Club, announced that the Maryland-DC
QSO Party is scheduled to take place on August 15-16. Details in QST and on
the Club Web site at <www.w3cwc.org>

The F.A.R. Treasurer, John Chitwood, W3RGB, read the Treasurer’s Report for
August, 2004, (copy attached). The Report was accepted, as read, by voice
vote, on a motion by Hugh O’Donnell, W3FUO.
The motion was seconded by William Hatfield, W3QX.

Old Business:
The Autocall Magazine report was presented by William Hatfield, W3QX,
Editor. Extra copies with cover reprinted in clearer format (a Landsat image
of the Montgomery Fairgrounds and the surrounding access roads) were made
available at the meeting, Additional copies will be mailed out to each
subscriber,
as well. A new printing was made because the first printing was too dark.
The second printing is clearer, lighter and easily viewed as an aerial map
to show the way to the FARFest. The FARFest is to be held on the old dates
of the second week-end in September (dates Sept. 11-12, this year.)  Mr.
Hatfield made a call for additional Autocall Magazine editorial staff, and
for back-up to the present staff. The editorial deadline for the Fall 2004
issue of Autocall is September 15.

Mr. Hatfield reported that the sale of Vendor space and tables for FARFest
is going well.  However, workers and volunteers are still needed. The open
(needed) hours and dates are posted on the web site, at <www.FARFEST.com>.
Clubs are urged to provide a list of volunteers to Dan Blasberg, KA8YPY, as
soon as possible. (E-mail address: ka8ypy at ARRL.net>  An announcement of the
Technical Forums will be posted on the web site, with building number, times
and  the locations and directions for each forum. William Dobson, N3WD,
asked for additional volunteers to work at the nearby Hilton Hotel from noon
Friday, September 10, until 11:00 PM, and from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM Saturday
to staff tables and hand out the Vendor packets. Contact him by e-mail  at

Hours generally for volunteers were given as:
Gates: (3 gates) 2 persons at each gate -total 6 people, from 8:00 PM Friday
evening until 4:00 AM Saturday morning. Then, 6 people per gate, plus 2
runners (total 20 people for each 4-hour block) from 4:00 AM until 4:00 PM
Saturday. A total of 60 volunteers will be needed on Saturday to provide
relief for the gate attendants. Gate attendants are needed on Sunday, Sept.
12, from 6:00 AM until about 2:00 PM.
Clean-up: Additional volunteers will be needed to help with trash removal,
clean-up and closing. (4 or 5 people on Saturday form 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and
6 or 7 people on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM).
All volunteers who sign up will each receive a free FARFest ticket good for
both days at the hamfest.

Scholarship Committee Report:
Diane Zimmerman, AA3OF, reported that the F.A.R. Scholarship Committee has
completed the award process and all award checks have been mailed out.
Students are responding to her request for photos and biographical data. The
photos and Bio’s will be presented in the next issue of Autocall Magazine.

New Business:
Hugh Katz, W3HU, reported that K4AF, the Pentagon Amateur Radio Station will
host a Special Event from the Pentagon on 9/11/04 (Saturday) to commemorate
the Attack of 9/11/01. This is FARFest week-end.  However, all Ham’s are
encouraged to look for them on the air (all H.F. Bands). Their web site is:

President Dan Blasberg, KA8YPY, announced that the election of F.A.R.
Officers will take place at the November meeting, to be held on 11/10/04 at
the Virginia meeting place (Lee Center, Alexandria, VA) at 8:00 PM.

The next F.A.R. meeting will be held at the Fire and Emergency Services
building in Landover, MD on September 8, 2004 at 8:00 PM.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:06 PM on a
motion by Hugh Katz, W3HU, seconded by Hugh O’Donnell, W3FUO.
