[FARReps] After 10 Nov meeting--a magazine sales RFC

Going forward "single issues of Auto Call" will just be available 
from FAR.  Focus on what Auto Call can do is more likely to grow the 
magazine.

When I saw so-called newsstand sales in 2002 it was DOA; it still is: 
Clearly, no one is interested in calling on retail points of sale. 
The people I've talked with about this over the last month--including 
an informational discussion last night with those of you at 
Alexandria--don't disagree.  FAR wasted effort and resources trying 
and failing to get it going.

For now, the plan is to cease  newsstand-type "single issue" sales by 
third parties and focus on growing subscriptions.

For single issues, contact the Auto Call Circulation Manager Charlie 
Thompson <w3crt at arrl.net> or go to the FAR table at area hamfests.

That said, I proposed FAR members be permitted to sign up subscribers 
and get a fixed amount for each subscription they sign up.  More 
discussion here and at the 8 December meeting in Landover Hills, Md. 
so details can be worked out and some action can be taken by then. 
Member comments are requested.  It is important that every member 
think about this and a rep or officer comment.

The draft minutes should be posted here for your corrections in a day or two.

Mary Morris returns as President.  I continue as EVP.  Scholarship 
Cmte member John Chitwood continues as Treasurer.  Hugh O'Donnell was 
elected Secretary, in absentia.  Appointed Vice Presidents are Diane 
Zimmerman, Chair of the Scholarship Cmte; and Dan Blasberg, Chair of 
the FAR Fest Cmte.
