(ARES) [image: ares_cl.jpg] * The Amateur Radio Emergency Service? (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. *ARES Membership Requirements* Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization is eligible to apply for membership in ARES. Training may be required or desired to participate fully in ARES. Please inquire at the local level for specific information. Because ARES is an Amateur Radio program, only licensed radio amateurs are eligible for membership. We need many volunteers for the Hike Across Maryland so I will be brining this one up a lot over the next couple of months and will be reaching out to other clubs and organizations to fill in any gaps. If the Yahoo account can forward e-mails to my n3ro at frederick.com address please add me to the list. Otherwise, please feel free to e-mail me directly at that address. I will check my calendar for the Hike Across Maryland date and get back to you. That is an event I started as EC back in the mid 70's. It is one long day. When Jeff was EC he had asked me to cover as net control for the morning hours and then he took over around noon. I typically did that from my home station. Being a morning person, I would like either NCS duty from home or one of the early checkpoints. I need to check with my wife to be sure we're not scheduled for a trip that weekend. I will get back to you on that shortly. Rick N3RO On Wed, Feb 22, 2017 at 9:48 PM, Mike Myers wrote: > I listed out a few public service events at the club meeting and I have a > new one as well. There are ARES members that are not regular attenders or members of FARC so I have separated the ARES list from the club. On the yahoo side, as a security professional I hear what you are saying, there is the option of turning on 2 factor authentication with yahoo. That is what I do anywhere I can. I also use Lastpass and generate a unique password for every site. That way if someone does get my password hash and takes the time to actually brute force reverse the random password (no dictionary list would have that password) it would not be good for any other site.
