SB QST @ ARL $ARLB008 ARLB008 FCC Seeks Comments on Petition to Grant Lifetime Amateur Radio Licenses ZCZC AG08 QST de W1AW ARRL Bulletin 8 ARLB008 >From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT February 24, 2016 To all radio amateurs SB QST ARL ARLB008 ARLB008 FCC Seeks Comments on Petition to Grant Lifetime Amateur Radio Licenses The FCC is seeking comments on a Petition for Rule Making (RM 11760 - available on the web at, http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/view?id=60001333714) that asks the FCC to grant lifetime Amateur Radio licenses. Mark F. Krotz, N7MK, of Mesa, Arizona, filed his request with the FCC last November. He wants the FCC to revise Part 97.25 of its rules to indicate that Amateur Radio licenses are granted for the holder's lifetime, instead of for the current 10 year term. Krotz noted that the General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) already is issued on a lifetime basis, and he maintained that not having to renew licenses would lighten the FCC's workload. "It would be mutually beneficial for the FCC and Amateur Radio operators to update Part 97 to grant operator licenses for lifetime, Krotz said in his filing. "The FCC would benefit by reducing administrative costs." In 2014 the FCC granted lifetime credit for examination elements 3 and 4, but applicants seeking relicensing under that provision still must pass examination element 2. Individuals may submit comments via the FCC's Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS) (http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/proceeding/view?name=RM-11760). 73 Brian AB3RW From ljfish1 at comcast.net Fri Feb 26 19:30:32 2016 From: ljfish1 at comcast.net (Jeff Fishman) Date: Fri, 26 Feb 2016 19:30:32 -0500 Subject: [FARC] Three weeks to Fredfest! Message-ID: <003501d170f6$122538b0$366faa10$@comcast.net> Just three weeks to our second Fredfest. Just wanted to give everyone a status update: . Venue - Everything is set for the use of the Social Hall at Independent Hose (where we normally meet) from 0630-1200 on Sat., 3/19. Tables will already be set up from the night before by St. Thomas More Academy's bingo games. However, we may have to stack and redeploy the chairs they use, so we need 4-6 helpers at 0630 and 1230 to help with this. . Tailgating - Tailgaters can begin purchasing their tables at 0630 and start setting up at 0700. The club treasurer should give each tailgater a receipt for however many tables they purchase. We'll be selling them for $20 for 2 tables, and $5 for each additional table. If a FARC member has an item or two to sell, he can use the club table. But if he has more, he should purchase his own table(s). Two or more members can always go in together on table purchase. . Food Vendor - The folks with St. Thomas More Academy have agreed to man their bingo food table and provide coffee and other drinks, donuts/bagels in the AM and then hot dogs around lunch. What they sell will benefit their charities. . Door Prizes - We will be selling chances ($1 for 1, $2 for 3, $5 for 10) for ARRL gift certificates and other prizes. All volunteers will receive 3 chances. Drawings will be every hour. . VE Testing - Fearless Leader Brian is in charge of this and may need helpers. . Signage - I'll put out street signs Friday night. . Talk in - We'll need someone to have a rig with 146.580 simplex monitored. As this is by far our biggest event of the year (and our primary money maker) for FARC, we need lots of help before, during, and after to help with these duties. Please let me know your availability ASAP. Thanks. 73, Jeff Fishman KB3FIO Hamfest Chair ljfish1 at comcast.net 240-285-6596 P.S. - At our previous Hamfests, we had volunteer badges.
