ARES groups all across the MDC Section will be participating in the annual
Simulated Emergency Test (SET) this Saturday, and here in Frederick County
we'll be simulating the aftermath of severe thunderstorms.
In theory, a strong cold front accompanied by severe thunderstorms with wind
gusts over 50 mph and possible EF 1-2 tornadoes, has gone through Frederick
County around 0200 Saturday morning. As dawn breaks on Saturday, folks
around the county are waking up to power outages, downed trees and blocked
roads, etc.
Between 1000 and 1100, we will be taking damage reports from all radio
amateurs around the county (ARES membership not required). NWS Skywarn
Spotters are especially welcome. We would like you to report on "simulated"
power outages, downed trees, blocked roads, and other damage caused by
strong straight line winds or possible tornadoes.
Net control will be N3RO, and we'll be using the 146.640 FARC repeater.
Please begin each damage report with "This is a drill".
Thanks - and have fun!
73,
Jeff Fishman
