Thanks Richard for the info.

I have seen the Maryland MESH activity listed on the MESH web site, there seems to be quite a number of parties getting into the game.

Update on my node work:

(1) Asterisk PBX (running on RaspberryPi) up and working across the mesh (5 nodes), with 4 analog phones connected to a Linksys pap2t. If we get more phones (IP based) we can setup phone service across the mesh. This means that we could place a call from Frederick to Hagerstown, if we had a linked mesh system up and running.

(2) D-Rats server/ratflector providing messaging, file transfer and chat to the mesh. (D-star radios can be added and I will be working on a packet setup). I have a DVAP dongle working already.

(3) Trendnet IP camera on the mesh with PTZ enabled. You can watch the scenery as it pans by. I will be adding more as time rolls by.

(4) WEB servers on RPi units.

I have added RF access to the RV, and am working on network connection from the outside. This will allow for a mobile deployment of V/UHF/HF stations, mesh node with wired/wifi access to clients and data relay to other nodes on the mesh. My current situation is short range, but as I obtain better wifi antennas the range will increase. When we get some weather minus the snow, I would like to setup up a mobile at the Frederick Overlook and try to connect your twoer location to a node in Montgomery county. We will need to obtain a bit of manpower to help with that.

The RV go kits include HF/Pactor, RMS Gateway and all integrated to the mesh.

TO BE DONE:

(1) Find more applications that add services to the area mesh.

(2) Connect to the rest of the state (hence the BRAT meeting is important)

(3) OH YEAH, get some operators to join the party.

Implementation of a county centric mesh will provide serious capabilities to the community. Adding a county to county connection will service the entire State ( and beyond).

Once we have established a serviceable presents, I will reach out to the Frederick County served agencies and FEMA/MEMA. Hopefully they will see the light,

Subject: [BOAR-NET] Apr 14 Presentation on Baltimore's High Speed Amateur network

The Baltimore Radio ATV Society invites all hams and technology enthusiasts to our next meeting on Monday, April 14, at 7 pm at the Pikesville Library in Reisterstown, MD.

The Brats have built a high speed digital backbone connecting 5 sites across 20 miles of Baltimore, replacing our aging analog repeater links with modern commercial wireless gear and in the process joining the forefront of a technological revolution.

Learn about our early trials, how we planned our network, how we selected our gear, why we spent hours a hundred feet above the ground on a frigid winter night - and why we can send 3 gigabytes of data in 300 seconds with wind gusts over 50.

Get an overview of the regulatory environment and concerns. What frequencies can we use? Is encryption allowed? How do we secure the network, and how do we ensure priority traffic gets through?

See how the Brats are currently using our network today, where we're going tomorrow, and how the amateur radio community can leverage this technology in both everyday amateur use and emergency situations.
