Frederick ARES and the Emcomm community around the state will be participating in a Disaster Exercise this Saturday, March 15th, from 1100 to 1200, and we would like you to participate. The scenario is that a late-season major ice storm has caused power and phone outages across most of the county, and that the Red Cross has opened a number of warming shelters as temperatures drop close to zero.
As communicators, we would like you to simulate operating from a location close to your home QTH that you feel might be used as a shelter, such as a school, church, or community center. As we did in the Simulated Emergency Test last fall, we would like you to give us information such as the number of persons at your shelter, requests for blankets, cots, food, etc.
Net Control will be K3ERM located at the Red Cross in Walkersville, and we will start out using the FARC 146.640 - (PL 156.7) repeater, and switch to 146.580 simplex as conditions worsen. We will also be using simple terminal packet through K3MMB-10 on 145.770. Our new Mobile Command Post will be operating as K3MMB and he will act as a relay for 146.580 simplex, and be located on top of Braddock Mtn.
This exercise is open to all hams and ARES membership is not required. If you would like to participate, listen for the net to begin at 1100 on 146.640, and be ready to QSY to 146.580. If you have packet, monitor simple terminal on 145.770.
Use your imagination, and have fun!
