Jeff and all,

Take care,

This Sunday, October 6, is the CARAfest and the Maryland State
Convention at the Howard County Fair Grounds.

Gates open at 8 am for shopping at the vendor’s tables and finding
those both radio-related and other items from the tailgaters.

The Maryland State Convention begins at 8:30 with the ARRL Forum led by
Atlantic Division Director Bill Edgar, N3LLR.  Between 9 and 10 am
Section Emergency Coordinator Jim Montgomery, WB3KAS, will give a brief
talk on the statewide Simulated Emergency Test that is being conducted
on October 5 followed by our guest speaker from the ARRL, Chuck
Skolaut, K0BOG.  Chuck is in charge of the Official Observer program of
the ARRL and will be discussing what Official Observers do, how they do
it and why.  Following that, there will be a discussion/demonstration
of the use of Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System (NBEMS).  At 11 am
will be the second meeting of the year of T-MARC, the frequency
coordinating committee for our area with elections and various motions.

There will be a license test session provided by the Laurel Amateur
Radio Club VE team beginning at 0900.

Bring your QSL Cards and Bill Dobson, N3WD, will check them for you.
Bill doesn't check cards for 160 meters, however, newly appointed card
checker Mike Cizek, W3MC, will also be there to check cards and can
check 160M.  Bill will also be selling envelopes for the ARRL Incoming
QSL Bureau for the 3rd and 4th call areas.  He sells the envelopes
basically at cost in batches of 5. Five envelopes with a single forever
stamp is $3 and five envelopes with two forever stamps is $5.25.

If you'd like to renew your ARRL membership or become an ARRL member,
we’ll have Repeater Directories and some antenna books at the ARRL
table to select from as a thank you for joining our national
association.

The purchase of an entry ticket will also allow you and your spouse to
enjoy The Maryland Suburban Home Show at no additional charge.
