[FARC] Correction

David,

The last step in my troubleshooting suggestions needs to be changed.

With S7 in the tune position you should now measure about 25 ohms since

R1 and R3 are essentially in parallel. The resistance of the 5 turns of

T1 is essentially zero. Now move the VOM meter lead from the input

connector to ground and you should see the 51 ohms of R2.

Hopefully one of these measurements will point to a problem that is

easily corrected.

David,

Here are some suggestions as why your tuner is not working.

1) One of the resistors R1, R2, R3 is open. Not likely but possible.

2) One or more connections to the toroid inductors is open. This is

more likely. The wire on these inductors is enamel covered and sometimes

it is hard to get a good connection if you don't get all of the enamel

off. If you have a Volt/Ohm meter, an easy check would be to measure

the resistance from the input to the output of your SLT with S7 in the

operate position. This should give a low reading of probably less than

one ohm. If you now switch S7 to the tune position, the reading should

   change to about 51 ohms.

I will bring a meter to field day next weekend in case you have not been able

to get together with Rolan.

Mark

Subject: [FARC] Help me debug my tuner kit?

Hi, guys,

I know you all are considerably smarter than I am, so I'd like to ask for
help. I just assembled a Hendricks SLT+ QRP tuner
(http://www.qrpkits.com/sltplus.html) and I must have done something wrong.
I'm not able to get a match on the antennas I've tried, even though they've
been cut per specification. The kit is fairly simple, which makes it all the
more embarrassing that I haven't gotten it to work.

Would any of you knowledgeable folks be willing to take a look at it and
help me determine the problem? I was hoping to set up a QRP station for our
field day.

Much thanks and 73,
