I tested with both in Alexandria VA, and in Davidsonville, MD last year.
Both have testing sessions scheduled for this Saturday, 12/14, take a look
at http://larcmd.org/vec/. The tests offered through the Laurel VEC are
all no fee, and both groups will allow you take multiple tests (Technician
+ General for example) on the same day if time permits. The group in
Alexandria was actively encouraging people to take the next test up even if
they hadn't studied for it just to see if they might be able to figure out
enough of the test to pass. The Alexandria group seemed to multitask more
effectively, while the Davidsonville group had things setup such that they
didn't finish processing the paperwork until everyone or almost everyone
was done taking the test. I'll also say that there is some interesting
history involved with the Davidsonville club's location, they have a club
house on the site of an old Nike missile installation.

Also the Opequon Radio Society, located at the VA hospital just outside of
Martinsburg, WV has a test listed for this Sunday 12/15 at 1 P.M. on their
website (http://www.qsl.net/w8ors/Main.html).

Not sure if any of these meet the request for closer, but they are
certainly sooner than the next Reisterstown test.
