Hi Phil,
Well I agree on the ease of operation and handing to someone who has never seen one as to the ease of use of the Wouxon.  It's hard to beat the Kenwood F6 but that cost upwards of $400.00. Another to look at, if ease of use is not that important is the Baofeng  UV5R. Has 2 meters and 440 does everything the others do and I paid $48.00 + $6.00 for a programming cable. Program is free.  Not that easy to remember how to program everything but load up the memory's and you will be OK. This is really a throw away radio to use when it's possible that it might get damaged or lost.

Alinco is the first our with a dual band HT, 2m + 70cm, for well under $200 to compete with the Wouxon I guess. It actually looks pretty good for a Ham Only radio. it also looks a heck of alot easier to use than the Wouxon. They both have a place I believe but for sure the Wouxon does NOT belong on the front lines of an emergency since it is NOT an easy radio to pass on to someone else to use who has never used it, hasn't got the manual, or hasn't got a PC & needed cable & software to reprogram the thing if needed just to add one repeater!
