Subject: [FARC] Ops needed for MS bike event 9/29
Frederick ARES and interested local hams will be providing communications support for the Multiple Sclerosis Bike to Bordeaux fund-raiser on Saturday, Sept. 29th, on three routes (14, 35, and 63 miles) through Frederick and Carroll counties. This will be a major public service event with 16 to 24 operators needed for 7 rest stops and 7+ SAG vehicles. The event will run from about 0700 to 1400 with most shifts being about 2-4 hours each.
We will be using one or more of the local 2M repeaters (to be determined). If you would like to ride in one of the SAG vehicles, please bring a mobile rig with ma-mount antenna and cigarette lighter plug. If you have APRS, all the better! You can even operate as a SAG from your own vehicle if you would be willing to possibly carry 1-2 bikes and riders if a breakdown or injury occurs. To operate at one of the rest stops, plan on operating from your vehicle.
ARES membership is not a requirement to participate - just an amateur license and a rig. Hams from Southern PA and Silver Spring are among those planning to participate, and we're going to need a big crew to pull this off properly.
If you're interested in participating, please email me with your name, amateur call, email address, phone number(s), approx. times available, radio/APRS equipment capabilities, type of vehicle (if you want to be a SAG), and T shirt size. Thanks.
73,
Jeff Fishman KB3FIO
Frederick ARES EC
