It's that time of year again and I'm looking for volunteers to help with a
Ham Radio Exhibit again at Montgomery College.
Based on what we learned last year, we are going to focus on what the kids
liked last year.
They liked just three things:
1. Soldering.
2. Sending Morse code.
3. Talking on the radio
Ideally, we would like to build CPO for the kids to take home. This
requires money, PCB, and parts. I have determined that NE555 timer chip CPO
are easy to build and pretty cheap.
3. HF was a problem last year. We ended up using a 2 meter mobile rig
talking to a local often on the other side of the room on an HT. The local
lied about his location, etc. The advantage was that his voice was crystal
clear and those around the kids on the mic could hear well.
To simulate an HF contact on 2 meters, we will be using a Kenwood multimode
that looks more like an HF rig than the mobile we had last year.
Interested, but can't fully commit at this time? Let me know, we'll keep on
informed and you can just show up at the last minute.
Thanks in advance.
