As President of the Frederick Amateur Radio Club and Frederick Co. ARES EC,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make this
year's Field Day at the Frederick Airport a success. It was a hot one, but
we had coverage for the full 24 hours and managed to make our fair share of
contacts on several bands and via several modes and the majority of our
contacts were made using solar power. Our proximity to the Airport
Appreciation Day activities prompted a number of people to stop by and see
what we were up to. One former ham who chatted with us even donated a Yaesu
HF rig to the club!

While some may question our use of the airport for Field Day, this is
exactly the type of area where we might be called upon to deploy in an
emergency. After all, most of the amateur relief activities in the aftermath
of the Haitian earthquake were conducted from the airport grounds in
Port-au-Prince. Perhaps next year we'll do Field Day from the top of the
parking garage at Frederick Memorial Hospital!

Special thanks go to AEC Joe Durnal NE3R for organizing this event, to Chuck
McIlwee W3BBC for working with Frederick Flight Center for the use of their
tie down area, to AEC Eric Gammeter N8AAY for towing the tower trailer, and
to Tim Jones of Glory Energy Systems for bringing out his solar power
generator trailer. A job well done.

Thanks again!

73,

Jeff Fishman KB3FIO

P.S. - If anyone wants to go green, Tim Jones' solar power generator is up
for sale as he wants to upgrade to a newer and fancier rig. You can contact
him at tim.jones at gloryenergysystems.com.
