[FARC] Question about Yaesu VX-6 Software

 Hi Brian,
The VX-6 is a great radio and given the very wide receive range there are a lot of frequencies that can be programmed into its 900 memories; everything from WFMD AM to shortwave, aircraft frequencies, public service, etc. I would suggest if you already have the software/cable to keep it as it saves a lot of time entering frequencies. Another option to get is the SMA to BNC adapter (available from Allegheny Electronics in Hagerstown for around $5) so that you can connect external antennas to it.

I used the VX-7 for a number of years with the SMA adapter, DC charger (available from Batteries America for around $20; they also have spare batteries for the rig), speaker mic, and a Mirage 35 watt amplifier with a quarter wave mobile antenna.

God bless,
Pudge W4LTX

Subject: [FARC] Question about Yaesu VX-6 Software

Hi all -
I've been to one club meeting around September and got my Ham License
after that. Hope to get out to more when we thaw out this spring!

I got a Yaesu VX-6 for my birthday. It's my first radio and it looked
like a good starter. I considered the VX-8R but it was quite a bit
more and I wasn't sure if I'd use it's additional features.

I also received the ADMS-VX6 software. It is called "Advanced Data
Management System for the Yaesu VX-6" and includes a USB to radio
cable.

Has anyone used this software or have opinions whether it is useful
and worth the price (I think $30-40). Before my Yaesu , I had a
PRO-528 scanner-only from Radio Shack and I bought ARC433 software to
help program the channels for that. I'm guessing this Yaesu software
is similar but I haven't opened it to try in case it's better to
return it and go with something more generic or open source.

On other question: in scanning around found two frequencies that
sounded like data/modems. I tried Google but didn't easily figure out
what they were. Is there a good website for finding out? The
frequencies were near 72.30 MHz and 144.395 MHz.

Thanks!
Brian / KB3TCC
