Subject: FEEDBACK ON ROCKVILLE SCIENCE DAY

Good afternoon Bob.

I wanted to commend you and the entire group of fabulous individuals who put
on the Rockville Science Day.

My family and I arrived when it opened at 12 and were still visiting
exhibits that remained at 5 when it closed.

It was a super afternoon for both my wife and I, my 2 children, and I would
say the future of science, technology, and math for the next generation of
America.

As an Assistant Vice President in a at Alion Science and Technology, I laud
the dedication of your staff to today's events.

Attached please find 3 pictures that are representative.

My son Benjamin (age 10) talking on HAM radio to a gentleman
in Wisconsin.

My son and daughter Caroline (age 8) soldering.

My son getting ready to launch his rocket.

We have been to many science fairs and similar events over the past 10
years, and yours was the best by far both in terms of the breadth and depth
of the presentations, and your staff and presenters (such as NIST) adjusting
their presentations and answering questions to the age level of the
audience.

The unrehearsed responses of Caroline when I asked her about today were:

                "WOW!

"I loved the balloon popping! (Your chemists blowing up
balloons w/ a candle that had different chemicals inside, which made
different color flashes, and they explained this was the essence of
fireworks).

"The rockets flew high in the sky! (The leaders of this
activity both made building the rockets fun/precise, explained Newton's 3
laws so everyone "got it," and ran a safe/fun range to shoot the rockets).

                "Animals.bumpy rough turtles!

"I'm trying make slime and see if it works.

"I liked the hair sticking up thing.

"I liked sticking the wires together. (The gentleman from
the HAM radio club were super in showing the children how to solder)."

.and from Benjamin.

"I liked making the Silly Putty

"It was fun to build and launch the rockets

"I loved the robotics exhibit and Harrier flight
simulator.it was sooooooo cool The best part was that you could make the
parts of the plane fall off and still fly.

"The Ham radio was fun. (The gentleman running the radio
was great.great mix of techy and getting over "mike-fright." I also commend
the gentleman, who said he was 67 in Wisconsin, who chatted and drew out
questions from a series of children."

Thanks for a wonderful afternoon that was both fun and educational for
children and adults alike, and furthered the math/science for the future of
America.
