You guys were right.  Just talked to Hartford Connecticut with 15 watts and got a report of 20 over S9 and later Columbus Ohio with 15 watts and got a report of 10 over S9.  Not exactly long haul yet but it sounds promising.  I was on 40 meters right as the sun was going down, a perfect time as dozens of stations were on including European DX.  The guy in Hartford couldn't believe I was using 15 watts.  I can't either.
