All,
This is a "heads up" notice for the Monday, March 17th meeting of the
Frederick Amateur Radio Club.
The main program this month will be "Mobile Installation Tips",
conducted by Bob N3UHD, who makes his living working in the land mobile
two-way communications field. Needless to say, Bob "knows whereof he
speaks" on this topic.
But here's the reason for this advance "heads-up":
Following Bob's talk, he will have a professional service monitor
available for anyone who would like to get a high-level functional
checkout of their HT, mobile, or other Ham rig. Among other things,
this equipment can quickly tell whether your rig is actually
transmitting "on frequency", whether its FM deviation is within limits,
what the real power output is, etc., etc.
So make sure your HT has a fresh battery or charge, and bring it to the
meeting for a checkup. Same for whatever other Ham rig you care to
bring. We'll have a 13.5V @ 35A power supply available. (Powering most
rigs should not be a problem, but if yours uses exotic or unique power
connectors, it would be helpful to bring along whatever pigtails are
needed.)
We'll also have an MFJ antenna analyzer or two available if you'd like
to check out that mag-mount VHF/UHF antenna that's taken a beating for
the last few years on top of your car, to see where it *really* resonates.
If you will be bringing a rig to hook up to Bob's service monitor,
please get back to me by email or phone, so Bob will have some idea of
his "workload" for the evening. Thanks!
