I got CY0X Sable Island on 6 meters also this past Thursday. 75 watts, 50.108 MHz., homebrew aluminum dipole up about 20 ft., non-rotatable fixed at roughly SSW. A large pile-up but somehow he heard me. My first DXpedition contact and that was neat. I haven't heard any DX on 6 meters with my antenna except for Sable Island. Farthest US contact so far, as the antenna has been up about 7 days, was Reno Nevada with a 44 signal report using 75 watts. US Northeast coast and Canada have been the majority of my 6 meter contacts this past 7 days. What I seem to hear most is power line noise.

For those with limited space or antenna restrictions a 6 meter antenna seems ideal and the band is fun when open. Dipoles or beams, either one is compact and will easily fit in an attic or on an existing TV antenna tower.

An interesting computer tool for those interested in 6 meter and 2 meter SSB is DX Sherlock. Just Google "DX Sherlock" and you'll find it. Has mapping and databases of reported DX and non-DX contacts in the US and the rest of the world, gives MUF, locations of Sporadic E clouds, sunspot activity, and other propagation indicators. Web site refreshes itself every 2 minutes with updated information.
