For all of you who turned out today to lend a hand at the Hamfest, I
wanted to send out a big Thank You! before the Sun sets on another
Father's Day.
I've been involved with FARC Hamfests in one way or another for perhaps
11 or 12 years, and I must say that this year's event benefited from one
of the largest and most enthusiastic volunteer turnouts I've seen.
But beyond the sheer numbers of volunteers, I was very impressed by the
willingness of so many of you, if you possibly could, to work not only
the times and areas that you've signed up for, but an additional shift
or two, wherever. Still others among you showed up early and pitched as
needed when glitches occurred, then cheerfully shifted gears into
whatever you originally signed up to do and beyond.
You may not have personally known all of your fellow volunteers, but
please be aware that they included Hams and non-Hams, FARC members and
non-FARC members, plus a healthy sprinkling of family and friends in all
of these categories, pets included, just for good measure.
Inevitably, this level of volunteer participation and enthusiasm carries
through the whole event. Everyone senses it, whether they're casual
attendees, other volunteers, or even the most "grizzled" of the vendors
who make a living at these events. This perception makes folks want to
come back, which a good thing.
So thanks for your efforts in making today's event a success. You all
pitched in to make it so, and I'm proud to be associated with you, a Ham
Radio community in our area that pulls together for the good of our
hobby. I'm hopeful that you will be willing and able to lend your
efforts to the 2009 Father's Day Hamfest!
73, Bob K9CMR
