Yes Eric I did successfully send Email via WN3R-10 although by indications
of the WN3R-10 packet node it didn't seem like I did. I kept getting
messages indicating that the Email was "Undeliverable," however I found my
Email was sent successfully to the Internet each and every time. The
"undeliverable" messages sound like a bug unique to WN3R-10 because Winlink
2000 nodes in other Southern Maryland counties don't do this.
WN3R Dick has indicated that I should be using the AIRMAIL client software
with WN3R-10 and Winlink 2000. However Airmail software is not necessary to
send an Email message via a Winlink 2000 packet node, one can still do it
the old way. Standard packet BBS commands can be used and this is the
first time I had ever heard of the Airmail client.
For example when I sent you an Email message a few weeks ago I used the
following command on WN3R-10 without using the AIRMAIL client software:
SP N8AAY;SMTP:n8aay at verizon.net
You are then prompted for the subject line and text of your Email message
and the command /EX on a separate line sends the mail. Email can be read
on WN3R-10 also via using standard BBS commands like LM and RM (list mine
and read mine). I believe these are standard packet BBS type commands
which you are probably already familiar with. Although not a pretty GUI
like the Airmail client would be, the old method still works, but I realize
that for training hams quickly whom are new to packet operations it is good
to have an Email client that resembles something they are already familiar
with, at least that is the theory anyway.
For me, every time I introduce new ham software on my computer it causes new
problems so Airmail is not something I'm going to be interested in.
