Greetings,

Now that the Father's Day Hamfest and Field Day are behind us, Frederick
County ARES has been asked by the One Less Car group to provide
communications for the 2008 Cycle Across Maryland (CAM), July 25-27,
starting and ending at Mt. Saint Mary's University (MSM) in Emmitsburg. This
is the largest public service event commitment in terms of operator hours in
recent memory, and it will require the combined efforts of a number of
volunteer radio operators from Friday to Sunday. We will have our Net
Control operations based at Mt. Saint Mary's with 2-3 rest stop locations
and 2-4 SAG vehicles which will require at least 1 operator at each post in
approx. 2 1/2 to 3 hour shifts. Radios and APRS equipment will be provided
at MSM and in the SAG vehicles (APRS to track vehicle location), but rest
stop operators will be asked to use their own 2M radios. The primary
repeaters we will use will be Frederick 146.730- (141.3) on Fri. and Sun.,
and Gettysburg 145.350- (103.5) on Sat. Back-up simplex frequency will be
146.580. Most of the Fri. and Sun. routes will be in Frederick County, MD,
and most of the Sat. route will be in Adams County, PA. (I guess they should
really call it Cycle Across Maryland/Pennsylvania!)

Here's where and when we need people:

Friday-
Lewistown Fire Dept. 0730-1030
Walkersville Heritage Farm Park 0830-1100, 1100-1330

Distelfink Restaurant (Shrivers Corners, PA) 0915-1130, 1130-1400

All licensed amateurs are invited to volunteer, and ARES membership is not
required. SAG vehicles will be provided by and driven by CAM volunteers.
Food will be provided.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to sign up for a
shift or two. This is a great opportunity to help a worthy cause and hone
our emcomm skills. For more information about the CAM go to
