As many of you know I've been working on an Elecraft K1 transceiver
kit for several months. I guess you could say mostly that I wasn't
working on it for several months, but I've made some great progress
over the last few days. Today, power was applied for the first time,
and I'm happy to report that there was no smoke visible or smelled nor
did any components get warm. All of the voltages matched the manuals
specifications. Best of all, it is starting to look like a radio!
Well, at least it has a place to plug in the antenna.
I've been keeping a log of my progress on my blog - the following link
will include all of the posts related to the K1 project.

I'm not learning as much as I thought I would while building, but I've
learned some key things along the way, like how to strip very thin
wire with a blob of hot solder, how to count pins on an IC, how to
wind toroidal inductors, and my soldering skills have improved as I go
along. The kit was probably a little more than I was ready for, but
I'm enjoying building it none the less.
