Allen, excellent question!
"KJI", the shorthand I've come to use over time, is a fragment of the
Ham callsign held by Gene Niemiec, K2KJI, who runs a store called (of
all things) "KJI Electronics" up in NJ, not too far West of NYC.
If you go to their web site, http://www.kjielectronics.com/ , you'll see
a photo of the KJI crew on the main/home page. I'll describe Gene as
"the one in the blue shirt" in that photo. (I do this primarily out of
respect for anyone who may have sensitivities regarding stature,
national origin, rotundity, etc.)
Gene K2KJI and crew have been coming to the FARC Father's Day Hamfest
for 7 or 8 years, sticking with us through good years and bad, so he's
garnered a good bit of loyalty from many of his repeat customers in the
area, including (obviously) yours truly. When HRO, Radio Works and the
others wouldn't give us the time of day, KJI showed up, year after year,
smiling, having a good time, and delivering the goods at good prices.
And, they're nice people to boot.
In a nutshell, KJI Electronics is a "draw" at our Hamfest, no two ways
about it, so I encourage folks looking to buy stuff to "check with KJI"
to see what he can do for them. If folks decide to buy elsewhere,
that's fine, but many have found "KJI" to offer comparable or better
prices and service than their competitors.
I'd like to see KJI stay in business for a number of reasons, but one
big reason is so that he can keep coming to the FARC Father's Day
Hamfest. It's as simple (or not) as that...
