Here is an email from a gentleman who was involved in the "Hike Across
Maryland", and who would like to get similar support for the "Cycle
Across Maryland" event that he's also involved in. He apparently had
help from one or more local Ham Club(s) on the Eastern Shore in past
years, but for whatever reason, that is no longer available.
If you have any Ham Radio contacts on the Eastern Shore or thereabouts,
and think they might be able to help, please let me know, and I'll
forward this person's contact info to you.
Thanks for reading.

His email follows:
=====================================
We met on Sat May 5 on the Appalachian Trail where you were providing
radio coverage for the Mountain Club of Maryland's Hike Across Maryland.
Thank you for being there for us. You and I spoke about a bicycle event
that I am involved in, asking if you could put me in touch with radio
operators who may be able to help out. Our need is for a base station and
two or three mobile units each day for three days, as follows:
This bicycle event is scheduled for Friday July 13 through Sunday July
15. It is the 19th annual Cycle Across Maryland event. The event is
sponsored by "One Less Car, Inc" the pedestrian and bicycling advocacy
group for Maryland, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency. The event will be
hosted at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, in Princess Anne,
Somerset County.
Each day there will be a different set of three planned circuit rides,
starting at UMES, short, medium, and long. The routes are generally in
the area between Crisfield and Trap Pond in Delaware. We expect 500-750
participants. See www.onelesscar.org for more information.
We would like to have a mobile unit on each route to follow up on the
cyclists and issue situation reports to net control. The three routes
largely overlap so that two mobile units could do the job. Net control
would advise CAM central, located at UMES, of instances that need
attention. The cyclists are on the routes from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The
mobile units could start their patrol some time after 8:00, perhaps 9:00
or 10:00, but should circle the route until closing time. Net control, of
course would be operational as long as there were mobile units out. CAM
will equip the mobile units with bike carriers so that cyclists in
distress can be transported to the next rest area, and perhaps provide
someone riding "shotgun" with the radio operator.
.
Thus, our need is for a base operator and two or three mobile operators
for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The same individuals need not
participate each day; there could be a different team each day and two
shifts per day.. CAM will reimburse the radio operators for mileage,
meals, and other direct expenses.
Thank you for your interest and cooperation, I hope that you will be able
to get this information to some radio club in the vicinity eager to be of
assistance. Thank you for your interest and assistance.
