I know that many Hams, including some FARC members, have been purchasing
new gear so that they can exercise their new privileges, dust off some
of the old ones, or just because they like that "new rig" smell and have
decided that NOW is the time.
I'd like to remind anyone contemplating such a buy that we have some
very fine Ham Radio equipment dealers coming to our Hamfest on Father's
Day.
If you just can't wait, or are still looking over the field of new rigs
and not ready to make your move, these dealers also do mail order, and
will often meet or beat the prices you can get from any of the other
mail-order places. Their service is excellent, and you'll usually have
your new stuff the next day or within two days of placing your order,
often with free shipping. And since they're based outside of MD, state
sales tax is not an issue, either.
The three main dealers who support our Hamfest year after year are:
- KJI Electronics (www.kjielectronics.com), who carries all major
brands of Ham equipment and accessories, specializing in Icom and Kenwood.
- Cedar City Sales (www.cedarcitysales.com), who offers pretty much
everything MFJ makes and markets, ARRL and other publications, various
brands of mag-mount and stick antennas, accessories, etc., etc., etc.
- Quicksilver Radio Products (www.qsradio.com), who fills an important
niche with all those adapters and connectors you need but don't have or
can't find, including many variations and adaptations of the Anderson
PowerPole line. Quicksilver also carries a variety of station
accessories, tools and test equipment and antennas, including the High
Sierra Sidekick screwdriver vertical.
You can rest assured that the FARC doesn't get any direct monetary
benefit or kickback from these dealers, but their presence at our
Hamfest is a big plus in and of itself, drawing many attendees every
year. (I should say that these three, along with some of the other
vendors at the Hamfest do give us quite a few door prizes to give away
each year, as well.)
So if you can support our vendors, you're supporting our Hamfest in yet
another way, which is good. And even if you're a dedicated HRO
customer, it could pay to check with KJI and/or Cedar City. Remember,
the money you save could be your own!

p.s. This year we will have TWO hat/badge/teeshirt/etc. embroidery
vendors at the Hamfest. They are Hamfesters (www.hamfesters.com) and
Hambroidery (www.hambroidery.com). They've got a hat or shirt with your
name on it, guaranteed. Hambroidery specializes in Ham Radio emblems
and logos such as ARRL, ARES, RACES, SkyWarn, etc., something not all
embroiderers offer.
