Kirk,

Welcome to the hobby. It can be a lot of fun! One of the things you might
consider is to participate in the Amateur Radio Field Day on June 23 and
24, 2007. (You've undoubtedly seen the other e-mails going around about
that event) You'll see a bunch of different operators, rigs, propagation,
antennae and etc -- not so much to learn the details, but to get some ideas
-- and to have fun operating with a rig that's pretty well set up for you
already as well as meet some of the other hams in the area. The first one
I went to as a ham back in 1993 was an overload of technical information
that I sort of filtered out and just saw the cool antennae and had fun
chasing the contacts to help the group out in the points total. The
technical stuff will come in time.

As they always say - any radio on the air is better than no radio on the
air as long as you don't let the magic smoke out of the box ++-8-) (the
ham radio emoticon with stacked antennae on top! )

Have a great day!

73, de
Scott, N3MVV

To all area Hams. Thanks very much for all the help regarding my tuner
issue. I'm still fumbling with it and am able to get 1.5:1-2:1 SWR on 40
and 20 meters using my vertical. However, I'm not having the same kind of
luck transmitting on the ICOM 718 with tuner as I did with the Kenwood
TS-2000. I don't quite know what's wrong yet, but I can't get any contacts

on 20 or 40 meters using 50 watts to max power, with the exception of
Clover
Hill in Frederick. I probably still don't have something tuned right.

Anyway, it's real comforting to know as a rookie that help is out there and

all you have to do is give a holler. I've never been associated with any
other group that offered as much help and support as the Ham community. I
really appreciate it.

Thanks again,

KB3ONM
Kirk.
