Hello all, Kirk Talbott (KB3ONM) here. I just wanted to put out an FYI for
anyone needing to take a ham exam. The Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia
Laurel VE Team is offering Ham exams every other month, on the 3rd week of
the month through December 22 2007. They are offering this special schedule
to handle the rush of candidates wishing to upgrade their Ham licenses due
to the FCC's abolishing the Morse code requirement for exams.

Ham exams are given at the West Virginia 911 Center, 1948 Wiltshire Road,
Kearneysville WV. 25430. Pre-registration is highly recommended since they
can only seat about 25 people at a time. Next scheduled exam session is
June 23 2007, 2:00 P.M..

Contacts for the exam sessions are Mark F. Arnold (KB8YJV), ph. 304-876-9330
and Don S. Jones (K8DSJ), ph. 304-596-0117.

Visit the Jefferson County WV Amateur Radio Club website at www.jcwvarc.org
for further details. All Ham exams are given; Technician, General, Amateur
Extra. All Hams or prospective Hams wishing to take exams are welcome.

I took my General exam at the West Virginia 911 Center last Saturday April
21. There were only 5 of us taking exams that day and the session was very
friendly and relaxed. For me taking an exam of any kind is a nail-biting
experience, but this session was actually enjoyable and I found myself
wanting to stay after and meet and talk to people. This is in stark
contrast to my first exam session at another site where there were 30 people
taking exams and the session was by necessity efficient and coldly
bureaucratic. For new, unlicensed members of the club I highly recommend
taking your exams at the West Virginia 911 center.

Special note. Finding the West Virginia 911 Center from Frederick is much
easier than the directions given on the website. From Frederick just take
RTE 340 West (Charlestown) to RTE 9 North to Wiltshire Road.

73's and I'll see you at the Hamfest.
