 The FARC Father's Day Hamfest

Ever June since 1978 the Frederick Amateur Radio Club has sponsored  the popular Father's Day Hamfest in Frederick, Maryland. After being held for several years in the mid-1990's  at the Walkersville Fire Department grounds, the FARC Hamfest is back at the Frederick County Fairgrounds on East  Patrick Street. The Fairgrounds are convenient to major highways, including I-70, I-270, US-15, US-40, US-340,  etc., making it easy to reach from just about anywhere in Maryland, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania,  and points beyond.

The FARC Father's Day Hamfest offers plenty of room for tailgaters  and indoor commercial vendors, good food and refreshments, easy access with plenty of parking, clean restroom facilities,  and all the other amenities that make for an enjoyable event. For 2006, we welcome back Dave's Concessions as our Hamfest  food vendor, so bring your appetite along to the Hamfest!

This year our main drawing prizes include a very slick Kenwood TS-570S(G) HF+6m  DSP+NR1 transceiver as 1st prize; a rugged, high-powered Icom IC-2200H 2m mobile rig as 2nd  prize; and two rugged Icom  IC-V8 HTs as 3rd  and 4th prizes!

Every general admission ticket has a chance to win one of the  main drawing prizes, plus, attendees may purchase additional  drawing tickets in advance by mail, or at the Hamfest, to improve the odds of winning these great prizes.

Also new for 2006, Bill N3WD will be offering QSL checking services. Look for Bill  at the front of the Main Building between 9 AM and 12 Noon.

We also offer free  FCC Amateur Radio license testing. Testing sessions are conducted  by the CCARC ARRL VE team members, with help from other area ARRL VE's who pitch in to handle the crowds of prospective  and upgrading Hams. (The FARC underwrites the cost of the ARRL testing as a service to the local Ham community.)

Make sure you mark Sunday,  June 18, 2006, on your calendar. That's Father's Day, and  that means it's FARC Hamfest Day.
