Mary Morris N3TCI Mt Vernon ARC

-- Secretary's Report:

    - President Mary Morris distributed the July meeting minutes.
      They were approved as presented.

-- Treasurer's Report:

    - Acting Treasurer John Chitwood, K3RGB, distributed the Income
and Expense report and Balance Sheet (excluding scholarships)
      for FAR.

John also reported that the Foundation's taxes had been filed
for 2005. He had to make some educated assumptions regarding
data received from the scholarship committee before filing
      the return.

A letter will be sent to Hugh Turnbull, W3ABC, and Diane
Zimmerman, AA3OF, asking them to supply financial data
to the treasurer on a regular basis.

-- Vice-President's Report:

    - Executive Vice President William Hatfield, W3QX, reported
that a new banner was needed for FAR. The old banner was
for Auto-Call magazine and can no longer be used.

A new banner may be purchased from Kinko's for $200. A motion
was made, seconded and passed authorizing the purchase of
      a new banner.

William also reported that he will be discussing FAR at the
next meeting of the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club on Wednesday,
      August 16th.

-- Scholarship Committee Report:

    - Scholarship Committee member John Chitwood, K3RGB, reported that
checks have been sent to all of the scholarship winners.

-- F.A.R.Fest 2006 Report:

    - F.A.R.Fest2006 will be Saturday, September 9 and Sunday,
September 10 at the Montgomery County (MD) Agricultural
Center (Fairgrounds) in Gaithersburg. Take a look at
      <http://www.farfest.org/>.

    - Dan Blasberg, KA8YPY, reported that the "Fairgrounds" has not
yet signed a contract with FAR. But, he noted, the fairgrounds
are running late on all their contracts. The contract should
be in place shortly after the Montgomery County Fair in late
August. This will give FAR a good negotiating position for a
      discounted price.

    - Dan is also going to ask Gaithersburg Equipment Company to
donate the use of four-wheeled carts during FARFest. Advertising
for Gaithersburg Equipment Company will be offered in exchange.

    - F.A.R.Fest2006 will also host the ARRL Maryland-DC Section
Convention. Section Manager Jim Cross, WI3N, is handling the
programs. ICS-100 and ICS-700 courses will be offered. For more
      information, look at <http://www.farfest.org/program.php>.

There will also be a vintage AM Special Event Station set up
      on site.

There will also be a "Hamsexy" contest to show off clever, neat
and functional installation of amateur radio mobile equipment.

    - Volunteers are needed. Please contact Dan Blasberg at
<KA8YPY at verizon.net> to volunteer. Ticket sellers are
      especially needed.

    - Tables for member clubs will, again, be available at no
cost. *But,* clubs are to understand that they may be
"bumped" in order to accommodate paying vendors. Clubs
may be offered a tailgating space in lieu of an inside
table at the discretion of the F.A.R.Fest chairman.

-- Old Business:

    - A motion was made, seconded and passed to table the plans to
      modify/update the by-laws.

    - After FARFest, the Executive Board members will meet to discuss
finances and the future direction of the Foundation.

-- New Business:

    - In recognition of the demonstrated lack of interest in FAR
meetings over the past several months, a motion was made to
      skip the next FAR meeting.

The motion died for lack of a second.

    - An announcement was made asking for people to step forward and
accept positions as officers in the Foundation. There was no
      response.

-- Announcements:

    - Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10 ---
F.A.R.Fest sponsored by the Foundation for Amateur Radio.

The meeting adjourned at 9:16 p.m.

The next Foundation for Amateur Radio meeting is scheduled
for Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 8:00 pm at the Lee Center
in Alexandria, Virginia.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Respectfully submitted,

s/E. Allen Brown
