To All Maryland Amateurs:
The MDC Section needs your help. Maryland Senate Joint Resolution 2
(Radio Amateurs -- Support and Encouragement) is held up in the House
Rules Committee instead of being referred immediately to a committee
where it can be voted on as other bills are. I have just been told that
the Rules Committee regards all resolutions as a lower priority than
other legislation. The good news is that the Rules Committee will change
its priorities when the members hear from a large number of
constituents.
The list at <http://n3ij.home.comcast.net> contains the names, districts
and contact information for Rules Committee members. One of them may
represent you, except in Districts 43, 45, and 46, where residents have
more than one delegate on the Rules Committee. Please take a look at the
list, and if any of the Rules Committee members represents you, could
you take a moment this week and send an e-mail or leave a phone message
for your delegate or delegates?
If none of your delegates is on the list, no action is needed.
The e-mail could say something like this
Subject: Senate Joint Resolution 2 - "Radio Amateurs - Support and
Encouragement."
"Delegate (name),
Please urge your colleagues on the Rules Committee to re-refer SJ2 to
the appropriate committee as soon as possible.
Thanks!
(your name and street address)"
cc: sj2 at bccecom.org
When you leave a phone message, it isn't necessary to ask anyone to call
back. Just say, (My name is (your name), I live at (your address) and I
would appreciate the delegate's support for re-referring SJ2 to the
appropriate committee as soon as possible.)
Re-referring is the term the Rules Committee uses for its procedure. You
can read more about SJ2 and its status at
<http://mlis.state.md.us/2005rs/billfile/sj0002.htm>
We need to get this bill passed in the next couple of weeks, before the
end-of-session crunch in late March. I'd appreciate it if you would
contact your delegate(s) this week.
Thank you & 73,
Tom Abernethy, W3TOM
