Frederick County ARES will conduct the annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET)
exercise this SATURDAY OCTOBER 2nd from 10AM until {about 1 or 2PM). A
voice tactical NET will be conducted on the 147.06 K3MAD repeater for
general check-ins and any assignments that may come about. Basically all
interested should come out to the Red Cross HQ building in Walkersville to
observe the demo and learn more about Winlink.

This year's initiative will be DIGITAL EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS USING WINLINK.
Winlink is a computer application that handles standard Outlook (SMTP) email
via Amateur Radio AX.25 packet radio. Baud rate can be anything you like-
as long as you have the equipment! (1200, 9600, 56K or 10 or 50MB/s)

SET operation sites include: RED CROSS HQ in Walkersville, the County EOC
on Montevue Lane and possibly the FARC station located at the Civil Air
Patrol building adjacent to the Frederick County Airport.

Also planned at the Red Cross Headquarters in Walkersville will be a power
point presentation on the Winlink application and it's functionality within
ARES/RACES in providing our Served Agencies with a standard email tool WITH
or WITHOUT the internet.
