What:

ANNOUNCING ARES/RACES AMATEUR RADIO SYMPOSIUM

When:

Saturday October 4, 2003 8:30AM to 3:00PM

Where:

Red Cross Chapter

2 East Frederick Street

Walkersville, Maryland

2nd floor "DOC" meeting room

With the degree of recent ARES/RACES activity provided during Tropical
Storm Isabel MDC Leadership has decided all SET criteria have been
fulfilled for this year. This means we do not have the commitment of
conducting our annual SET exercise.

In light of this situation I would like to invite ALL INTERESTED HAM
OPERATORS to attend a SYMPOSIUM for the purposes of reviewing our ARES
SOP guidelines, NTS message handling training, some LUNCH and open
discussions, not to mention increase the number of ARES/RACES
registrants!

NTS message handling/training assistance to be provided from the RADIO
AWEARNESS DAY event being held same day in Brunswick by ARES/RACES and
REACT operators. Roy Bates, N2CSQ and Mike Barrett, K3MMB coordinating.

As time permits we will tour the recently installed RED CROSS base radio
station to get an overview of its functionality. This Red Cross base
radio (47.42MHz) would be operated for the Red Cross and by ARES/RACES
ham operators. Red Cross staff members will also receive an overview of
the base radio operation.

A personal invite to all currently registered ARES/RACES operators will
be forthcoming so keep it in mind and please consider attending.
Announcements also to be made on the weekly ARES, REACT and MADXRA
on-air nets. This symposium will be an excellent time to REGISTER for
ARES/RACES in Frederick County if you aren't already!

PLEASE RSVP no later than THURSDAY OCTOBER 2nd to this email if you will
be attending the symposium.

I hope to see you there.
